It has been 20 days since the January transfer market opened, and Manchester United are yet to sign a player, while other clubs are completing deals to improve their squads.
Manchester United fans may be wondering why their club has not made any signings yet, with less than two weeks left before the January transfer window closes.
The club’s plans going into the January transfer market, as outlined by manager Ruben Amorim, were to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, who, at the time, had a release clause of £ 65 million.
However, with competition from other top clubs, Manchester United missed out on the Ghana international after he decided to join rivals Manchester City, who were willing to pay more salary than Manchester United.
Manchester United then informed Ruben Amorim, who was eager to strenghten his squad with Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo, and Noussair Mazraoui out for the African Cup of Nations, that the market at the club is now on standby, which caused some arguments internally, resulting in his sack.
Will Manchester United sign a player this transfer window?
Manchester United will only make signings this January transfer window based on opportunities in the market. If a top player that they are looking at ahead of the summer transfer window becomes available this month, they will make a move to sign him.
Manchester United is prioritizing the midfield position in the summer, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson said to be their first choice target. The club also has Adam Wharton and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba on their list.
These midfielders are unlikely to be available this month, ahead of the World Cup. Manchester United are also looking at the left wing position and a striker if Joshua Zirkzee leaves the club.
Manchester United has sent scouts on several occasions to watch Ivorian winger Yan Diomande and is very interested in the player, who is said to be valued at 100 million euros.
RB Leipzig is not open to selling the player this winter as the club is in a good place financially, after selling the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Xavi Simons in the summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the player, with Spurs prepared to make a good financial proposal to him this month.
Yan Diomande is a close friend of Manchester United’s Amad Diallo, and that could help the club in getting the player’s buy-in.
