Manchester United’s first signing under head coach Ruben Amorim has been spotted at the airport as he flew to Manchester for his medical.

Teenage defender Diego Leon is currently in England to finalize his move to Manchester United from Cerro Porteno. The Paraguayan talented left-back impressed top European teams since making his first-team debut for Cerro Porteno in August. The likes of Manchester City and Arsenal were chasing his signature, but he is now set to sign for United.

The left-back position has been a problem for Manchester United over the past two seasons with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both struggling with injuries. The club is desperately in need of more depth in that position and Leon will be one for the present and future.

Manchester United reached a full agreement with Cerro Porteno to sign Leon for a fee worth $4 million + $1 million add-ons according to Fabrizio Romano. Diego Leon will not officially join Manchester United until he turns 18 in April, but he is set to undergo his medical after traveling to Manchester this weekend.

Reports also claimed that Diego will spend a few days in Manchester as he prepares for the Under-20 South American tournament that is set to take place in Venezuela this month.

The 17-year-old left-back took some interviews at the airport and revealed that he is already taking English lessons as he prepares for a new life in England.

Renato Bittar, representative of Diego León: “Now we are going to Manchester for the medical and to sign the contract. The idea is that he will be present for the club next season.”
