Crystal Palace named their price for Manchester United’s target Jean-Philippe Mateta after he impressed the Red Devils.

A new report stated that Manchester United had opened talks with Crystal Palace over the signing of French striker Mateta, but the club would not let him leave for a cheap fee.

Manchester United’s main aim in the summer transfer window is to sign a new striker due to the lack of goals this season. Rasmus Hojlund’s struggles at the club continue with the Denmark international yet to score in 16 consecutive games for the club.

Rasmus Hojlund barely plays a shot on goal during games, his positioning is not good enough and his hold-up play. Joshua Zirkzee was signed from Bologna in the summer to provide competition for Hojlund, but he’s been given a new role under Amorim.

Joshua Zirkzee has been doing well since the start of the year and has thrived in the number 10 position. The Dutch forward is seen as a second striker and he is doing well under Ruben Amorim.

The 23-year-old is likely to be playing in the number 10 position and Manchester United wants to bring in a new striker in the summer. The club could be open to an offer for Rasmus Hojlund in the summer as they need to make sales before signing.

How much did Palace want to sell Mateta?

Crystal Palace has informed Manchester United that it will cost them 40 million pounds if they are to lure Jean-Philippe Mateta from the club in the summer, according to report from L’Equipe via GFFN.

Multiple sources have now revealed that Manchester United have not opened talks with Palace to secure the signature of the 27-year-old striker.

A fresh report from The SunSport has now stated that Jean-Philippe Mateta has become a contrate target for Manchester United and the player is open to a switch to Old Trafford in he summer.

Manchester United sent Marcus Rashford and Antony Dos Santos out on loan in the winter and failed to sign a replacement for the coach, leaving him with just three attacking options as Amad Diallo has suffered an injury.

Ruben Amorim has said that some of the players understand that they had to move on in the summer for the club to be able to bring in new players that suit his system. The likes of Rashford, Antony and Hojlund are available for transfer.

Manchester United has other targets for the striker position on their list, but Mateta may be the cheaper option and he has Premier League experience to thrive under Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
