Manchester United’s youngster Kobbie Mainoo could have found his perfect role in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system after the performance on Thursday.

Manchester United ended their first phase of the Europa League tournament with a massive win against Romanian club FCSB on Thursday night.

Ruben Amorim and his men secured automatic qualification to the next round of the competition and they have successfully avoided a play-off after finishing third position in the table.

Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo scored the goals for Manchester United after a goalless draw in the first half. The involvement of Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho changed the game for Manchester United with the Argentine international assisting the last goal.

Kobbie Mainoo was arguably the best player on the pitch on Thursday night with Ruben Amorim playing the England international in a new position for the first time.

Kobbie Mainoo’s new position under Ruben Amorim

Kobbie Mainoo started his first European game for Manchester United on Thursday and Ruben Amorim decided to play him in the number 10 role.

He assisted Manchester United’s first goal of the game and scored the second with a lovely finish. Kobbie Mainoo was playing freely and doing less defensive work. He enjoyed his role against FCSB, according to the manager.

In our opinion, Ruben Amorim should continue to play the midfielder in that position and we are yet to see the best of him in a Manchester United shirt.

The number 10 role is something Manchester United has been wanting the manager to play Kobbie Mainoo and it finally happened in the Europa League against FCSB.

Bruno Fernandes started the game by forming a pivot with young talented midfielder Toby Collyer. Christian Eriksen started the game alongside Kobbie Mainoo with Manuel Ugarte rested.

The fans will understandably want to see more of Kobbie Mainoo in the number 10 position under Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United must keep Kobbie Mainoo and Garnacho

Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are one of the exciting players coming through the Manchester United academy, but reports have claimed recently that the club are open to an offer for them.

Alejandro Garnacho has been linked with a move away from the club with Chelsea and Napoli showing an interest in the Argentina international.

Ruben Amorim said after the Europa League game on Thursday that he wanted to keep Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho at the club despite that the club needs to sell academy players due to PSR. Selling an academy player is seen as pure profit in the book.

Kobbie Mainoo is still in talks with the club over a new contract, but no agreement reached with reports claiming that the club will be open to selling him at the right price.

Although, Manchester United are not actively looking to sell these players and have rejected two bids from Napoli for Alejandro Garnacho.
