Mathys Tel will not join Manchester United this month after talks collapsed with Bayern Munich over a loan deal.

Manchester United have been monitoring Mathy Tel and had a 50 million bid rejected for the 19-year-old during the summer of 2024, according to multiple reports.

The Red Devils reinstated their interest in Mathys Tel during the winter market after Bayern Munich made him available for transfer and the player’s willingness to leave the club.

Manchester United’s aim this month was to sell and make some reinforcements for Ruben Amorim, but they were able to make two signings this month, with the arrival of Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu.

Both defenders were presented to the Old Trafford on Sunday before the game against Crystal Palace which ended in a 2-0 defeat.

Why Mathys Tel didn’t join Manchester United?

Manchester United refused to pay a 5 million pound loan fee to Bayern Munich for Mathys Tel as the Bundesliga club doesn’t want to include an option or obligation to buy in the deal.

The Red Devils felt that it was an expensive risk for a 19-year-old and also developing the player for Bayern Munich or another club to benefit at the end of the temporary spell, according to multiple reports.

Mathys Tel is now said to be on his way to London to undergo his medical at Tottenham after the Premier League side reached an agreement with Bayern Munich for a straight loan without an option or obligation to buy.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Manchester United were all in the race for Mathys Tel, but his preference was Manchester United and he first rejected a move to Spurs despite the London club reaching an agreement with Bayern Munich for a fee worth over 60 million euros.

Reports stated that Mathys Tel wasn’t convinced by the project presented to him and he doesn’t want to leave for a permanent deal or a loan with an option or obligation to buy at the end of the season.

He prioritized a move to Manchester United as the projects presented to him were attractive and he will be getting minutes as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are struggling which leads to the manager starting Kobbie Mainoo as a false number 9 against Crystal Palace on Monday.

However, the 5 million pounds loan fee requested by Bayern Munich was expensive and the club decided not to sign any attacker this month.

Ruben Amorim is currently left with Rasmus Hojlund, Amad Diallo, Joshua Zirkzee, and Alejandro Garnacho as his attackers until the end of the season.

Marcus Rashford and Antony Dos Santos have secured a loan move away to Real Betis and Aston Villa until the end of the season. It could be tough for the manager as he is left with little options upfront.
