In a recent interview with TNT Sport, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed his best friend in football.
Ruben Amorim took charge of Manchester United in November 2024 in the middle of the season after the Red Devils decided to part ways with Erik ten Hag due to a lack of results.
The 40-year-old revealed that the opportunity to manage Manchester United came and he couldn’t decline because it was a now-or-never deal, as the club wanted to hire a long-term manager then.
Ruben Amorim was doing well at Sporting CP, leading the race to win the Liga Portugal trophy. He was also in a good position in the Champions League, beating Pep Gaurdiola’s Manchester City 4-1.
He came to Manchester United with the same approach and system, but things have not gone as expected since his arrival. However, he said that he knows it will be hard to turn things around immediately but they will try to win games.
Manchester United currently sit in the 14th position in the Premier League table and they have been knocked out of the Carabao and FA Cup tournaments.
The team will face Real Sociedad in the Europa League round of 16 and it’s the competition the club will be hoping to win to play Champions League football next season.

Ruben Amorim’s best friend in football is Hugo Viana, the new Manchester City sporting director, and former international teammate Nuno Gomes. The Manchester United manager revealed during an interview with TNT Sport.
Hugo Viana and Ruben Amorim have worked closely since he took charge of Sporting CP in 2020 and they have a good relationship. They brought Sporting CP back to where they belong and their time together has been a success.
The expectation was that Hugo Viana would bring Ruben Amorim to Manchester City as Pep Guardiola’s replacement next season, but he ended up joining rival Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim was also asked about who is the best Portuguese football player of all-time and he named his former international teammate Cristiano Ronaldo as the best.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruben Amorim played together for the Portugal national team during his playing days. Ronaldo has also spoken highly of Amorim after he was appointed as Manchester United manager.
