Manchester United youngsters Shea Lacey and James Overy returned to action after months out injured.

Shea Lacey is highly rated at the club and considered one of the best talents in the academy. However, luck has not been on his side due to an injury problem.

The 17-year-old has been struggling with injuries over the past months which have kept him out of action for a long time. Lacey missed most of the games last season after suffering a new setback.

Manchester United’s new signing James Overy who was signed alongside Sekou Kone and Chido Obi-Martin last summer was also out for 8 months due to an injury.

Both James Overy and Shea Lacey made a return over the weekend in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool under-18s.

Who is James Overy?

James Overy is an Australian footballer who Manchester United signed from Perth Glory in the summer of 2024, alongside Chido Obi and Sekou Kone. Overy plays as a right-back for the Manchester United under-18s.

The 18-year-old talented right-back made his debut for the under-18s over the weekend as they faced Liverpool. He was out for 8 months due to injury.

Why did Chido Obi miss the Manchester United under-18s FA Youth Cup game vs Arsenal?

On Friday, Chido Obi-Martin was unavailable for Manchester United’s under-18s FA Youth Cup clash against Arsenal in the quarter-finals.

Manchester United’s under-18s academy team are currently the best in England since last season. Thanks to Adam Lawrence who has done a great job managing the team.

The under-18s proceeded to the semi-final of the FA Youth Cup competition after a 3-2 victory over Arsenal in extra time. Manchester United started the game well and dominated Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the first half.

Manchester United’s first goal of the night came from Jack Fletcher whose father Darren was in attendance at the Emirate stadium last night. 15-year-old Arsenal’s Max Dowman scored the equalizer with an amazing finish and gave them the lead from the spot.

Jayden Kamason found the equalizer for the under-18 in the 84th minute of the game with a bullet shot from outside the box. The game ended 2-2 at full-time and Manchester United restored their lead at extra time through Bendito Mantato.

Chido Obi was absent for the under-18s

Chido Obi is one of the best players, if not the best in Manchester United’s academy, he missed the game last night due to senior team involvement. Ruben Amorim’s team will face Fulham on Sunday in the FA Cup and Chido Obi is expected to play a part.

The 17-year-old forward is yet to feature for the academy since he made his first appearance for Manchester United against Tottenham. Ruben Amorim called upon the youngster after the injury problem in the squad.

However, Chido Obi watched the game and congratulated the team after the huge victory over his former club, but couldn’t get to face them.

The FA Youth Cup competition is the most important at the academy level in English football and it’s the competition where you see stars in the making. The likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho were promoted to the senior team after their impressive performances in the tournament.

Ruben Amorim has turned to the Manchester United academy players with some senior team players set to be out for the Tottenham game.

Manchester United will be traveling to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Sunday after a big win against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City.

They have been some bad news for Manchester United and Ruben Amorim in the past hours as some first-team players suffered an injury during training with Lisandro Martinez almost out of the season.

A new report revealed that the likes of Toby Collyer, Kobbie Mainoo, and Manuel Ugarte suffered an injury in training, including Amad Diallo who is set to undergo surgery next week. The Ivorian winger could be out of the season.

With more than three first-team midfielders out injured, Ruben Amorim has decided to include Sekou Kone in the matchday squad vs Tottenham with Jack Fletcher also with the group.

Players who get their first call-up to the senior team

Sekou Kone who joined Manchester United in the summer of 2024, made his first appearance in the matchday squad. The Malian midfielder has been training with the first-team squad since his arrival and could make his debut for the club soon.

Jack Moorhouse, another talented midfielder that Ruben Amorim is reportedly been watching with the academy. The 19-year-old received his first call-up and will be on the bench for the game against Tottenham.

Chido Obi-Martin has also been included in the matchday squad for the first time since joining the club. The Danish striker has been impressive in the academy, scoring two hat-tricks since this season.

The likes of Harry Amass and Jack Fletcher have been included in matchday squads before but are yet to make their official debut for the club.

The academy players will be looking to give their best and prove themselves if given a chance as they want to earn a permanent place in the first-team squad just like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

Dan Gore signed for League One club on loan for the remainder of the season

Manchester United youngster Daniel Gore has secured a loan move away from the club before deadline day.

One of the club’s aim this winter transfer window is to send some academy players out on loan to gain more first-team experience as they prepare for first-team involvement under Ruben Amorim.

20-year-old winger Ethan Ennis was the first academy player to secure a loan move away, followed by Ethan Williams, Wheatley and Joe Hugil who left Wigan for Carlisle United.

Manchester United midfielder Dan Gore has been impressive in the academy and has captained the team youth side in multiple occasions this season. The 20-year-old was promoted to the first-team under Erik ten Hag.

Daniel Gore joined Rotherham on loan

Manchester United have officially announced that 20-year-old midfielder Dan Gore has joined League One side Rotherham on loan without a buy option for the remainder of the season.

Dan Gore who debuted under Erik ten Hag in 2023 have been training recently with the Manchester United first-team squad and was involved in matchday squads under new manager Ruben Amorim.

The English midfielder has struggled with injuries in the past months when his loan spell was cut short at Port Vale due to an injury he suffered. Dan Gore made only one appearance for Port Vale in the League before returning back to Manchester United.
