Manchester United and Ruben Amorim have been handed a big blow ahead of their Europa League game against Real Sociedad on Thursday.

A piece of news has surfaced that 17-year-old Chido Obi-Martin is ineligible for Manchester United’s Europa League game against La Liga outfit Real Sociedad.

Manchester United was knocked out of the FA Cup competition in a penalty shoot-out at Old Trafford on Sunday. Fulham ended Amorim’s chance of winning the FA Cup trophy in his first season at the club.

However, Ruben Amorim has failed to lose a game in the European competition since he took charge of the club in November. The team will travel to Spain this week as they face Real Sociedad in the round of 16.

With Manchester United’s journey in the FA Cup coming to an end on Sunday, Ruben Amorim and his men will be hoping for a good result against Real Sociedad on Thursday before facing them in the second leg at Old Trafford.

Why Chido Obi cannot play in the Europa League?

Chido Obi-Martin cannot play Manchester United’s Europa League games. The 17-year-old talented striker doesn’t qualify for the B-list because he joined the club last summer from Arsenal. Chido Obi was not named on the revised A-List that was submitted last month.

Chido Obi was not named on the revised list last month because the club never expected the teenage striker to be involved with the first team this season, but due to injuries suffered, Ruben Amorim had to call upon him.

According to the ManchesterWorld, Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu will be available for selection on Thursday as the club submitted their names in the revised list last month.

The club’s aim this season is to secure Champions League football next season and they will need to win the Europa League to play UEFA Champions League next season.
