Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has suffered a new injury set-back days after returning to first-team training.
Luke Shaw has struggled to stay fit over the past seasons since he was injured in the Champions League clash against PSV. His best season at Manchester United came under Erik ten Hag in the 2022/23 season when he was considered the best left-back in the world.
Since the arrival of Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim, Luke Shaw has played only three games in which he came from the bench. His last game in a Manchester United shirt was in the 4-0 victory over Everton at Old Trafford.
The left-back position has been a problem at the club over the past few seasons due to Luke Shaw’s injury. Tyrell Malacia who joined as a backup for Luke Shaw in 2022 was out with injury for almost 365 days.
After returning from his long-term injury, he has struggled to return to his best shape and barely plays for the club under Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United decided to send him out on loan with an option to buy for 10 million euros, according to multiple reports. Tyrell Malacia will spend the remainder of the season at PSV as he aims to get back to his best.
Luke Shaw suffered an injury setback
According to Manchester United insider, Luke Shaw has suffered a new injury setback a few days after returning to training.
However, a new report has stated that Luke Shaw’s new setback is not too serious and he will return to team training on Monday.
Manchester United signed two defenders in the winter transfer window due to the need for a new wing-back and centre-back.
Lisandro Martinez has suffered an injury that will likely keep him out of the season. Luke Shaw can also play as a left-wing centre-back and he will be important for Ruben Amorim when he is fit.
18-year-old Ayden Heaven joined the club from Arsenal last month and he was signed to provide cover for Lisandro Martinez who is now injured. Heaven is expected to be given game time this season as he is considered a first-team player.
