Manchester United are interested in signing former Manchester City and Barcelona defender Joao Cancelo in the summer and the player has been informed.
Manchester United started the year well with Ruben Amorim’s team winning away against Manchester City, and Arsenal and getting a point against Liverpool at Anfield.
However, the team’s form has dropped, and its struggles continue in the Premier League, Manchester United are currently in the bottom half of the table after the defeat to Tottenham last week.
Manchester United made only two signings in the winter transfer window: Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and Ayden Heaven from Arsenal. The club failed to sign a replacement for Marcus Rashford and Antony, who left on loan last month and it could come back to haunt them in the second half of the season.
Joao Cancelo is a target for Manchester United
According to Football Transfers, Manchester United are interested in signing Joao Cancelo from Al–Hilal in the summer and has informed the former Barcelona player about the potential move.
The reports have also stated that Ruben Amorim will have the final say on whether to bring the Portuguese defender to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are looking to bring more wing-backs to the club despite the arrival of Patrick Dorgu in the winter. The wing-back position is seen as very important in the manager’s system.
Manchester United also has other players on their list for that position with Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde and Geovany Quenda being linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s interest in Joao Cancelo is yet to be confirmed, but the defender has a good relationship with Manchester United’s captain Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.
Bruno Fernandes and Joao Cancelo have been seen together multiple times during the national team duty for Portugal and he would be happy to play alongside him at club level.
Joao Cancelo spent last season on loan at Barcelona before moving to the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2024 for a few worth 25 million euros, but his market value has dropped since the move. Cancelo is currently valued at 13 million euros.
