A new report has stated that Manchester United are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel despite the availability of Andre Onana, Bayindir, and Tom Heaton.
Manchester United invested over 55 million euros on the signing of Andre Onana from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 after Dvaid De Gea’s contract expired.
The club and the legendary goalkeeper decided to part ways as no agreement over a new deal was reached. David De Gea was out without a club throughout the season before signing for Serie A outfit Fiorentina in 2024.
Manchester United brought in Altay Bayindir from Turkish side Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023 for a fee worth 4.3 million pounds.
However, the club are seriously looking at the goalkeeper department ahead of the summer of 2025. The club has been linked with the likes Zion Suzuki and Gregor Kobel.
Zion Suziki reportedly turned down a move to Manchester United in 2023 as the Japanese goalkeeper was looking for game time. He decided to join Serie A side Parma and has been impressive this season.
Manchester United are said to be monitoring him ahead of the summer and he could cost close to 45 million pounds.
Gregor Kobel to Manchester United?
According to Sky Germany, Manchester United and Chelsea are continuing to monitor the situation of Swiss and Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel who will be out of contract in 2028.
The reports also stated that Gregor Kobel has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past and an early departure from Borussia Dortmund can not be ruled out.
Gregor Kobel is only 27 years old which is a very good age for a goalkeeper. He has a market value worth over 40 million euros. Chelsea or Manchester United could decide to do a deal in the summer with both clubs having issues in that area.
What happens with Andre Onana?
Manchester United was searching for a new goalkeeper ahead of the January transfer window as Altay Bayindir wanted to leave the club in search of game time, as per multiple reports.
Manchester United was looking for a goalkeeper who would give Andre Onana competition as the club felt that Altay Bayindir couldn’t compete with him.
However, after the incredible performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round, he changed his mind about his future at Old Trafford.
Altay Bayindir has earned Ruben Amorim’s trust and the manager won’t be afraid to put him in goal in Premier League matches or against tough opposition sides.
With reports linking Manchester United with top goalkeepers, Andre Onana would need to step up his game this season if not the club might decide to bring someone in the summer.
